melancholy

waiting on some test results.  trying to adapt to the darker days and nights that fall brings.  spending precious free moments on new projects, then scrapping them.  avoiding capital letters.

but there's a sweetness to melancholy too, isn't there?  a quiet thoughtfulness that settles in, an opportunity for sober reflection.  an appreciation of small things.  then even a wisp of a smile feels so good.

what do you do with your melancholy?

  1. ...eat and watch a good movie!

    I hope (and pray) that everything is alright. And the test results come back with the answers that you are hoping for!!

  2. When I feel melancholy I take out one of our family history autobiographies or journals(great grandparents). I just read them to feel of their great spirit and determination. It makes me remember that I came from great stock and that because they were great... I am great and I can overcome whatever is thrown at me. It makes any challenge seem bearable. If you delve within yourself you will be able to find a strength you didn't even know you had. Whatever the test results... things will be o.k.

  3. I wallow a bit in my melancholy before I kick it to the curb (cleaning the house, chopping vegetables, running--after all the wallowing, I need action verbs ;o).

    Willing the results to arrive swiftly!
    Hugs!

  5. I curl up on the couch with a warm blanket and a movie that'll make me cry. Somehow, crying ultimately flushes my sadness and I feel better. Many, many {{{huggs}}

  7. Hi all, thanks so much for your words! They chase away the melancholy. I love reading about your own ways of coping. It warms my heart to know I'm not alone.

  8. I hole up with a good book, a warm blanket, and a mug of peppermint hot chocolate. And if it's the middle of summer, a good book, and frozen candy bars! =)
