Deep thoughts and non sequiturs.  That's where we're headed this week.

I was sitting with my four year old at the park and she was digging in the sand and chatting away to no one in particular, skipping breezily from one topic to the next.  She was utterly carefree and absorbed in her own world and I wanted to capture that moment somehow, so I rummaged around my bag and found my teeny notebook that I keep close by should an idea present itself.  (The notebook also serves as the go-to distraction device when the little one and I are stuck in random lineups and waiting areas.  Its pages are mostly filled with colourful scribbles.)  In very short order, this week's lightning round was born.  I promise not to do this often, but boy-oh-boy was it fun . . .

I also found myself thinking about this week's page in the shower, which is one of the world's best places to think deep thoughts . . .

Finally, here is a shot of most of this week's page (and two rapidly greening maples in the park behind my house):

You'll find all of this week's page here (border-free and colour-free) and here (borderful and colour-free) and here (borderful and colourful).

Happy Friday, friends!

  1. LOVE this one - everything about it. I totally do my best thinking in the shower too (or just as i am waking up a good idea comes through). I think the lightening round is awesome (Wednesday or fabric softener - you crack me up! thanks)

and the quote is one that sums up the messages i have been receiving all week from so many sources - just do it! (i am launching something big for the next stage of my life after being home for 8 years and i see i can easily get stuck in the researching and planning stages forever because it is so scary - but I keep hearing the only way to learn is to do so just do it already)

keep them coming - you know I love your pages so much and am grateful to you for reigniting my journaling. Ever since i found you i have not missed a week of jornaling (i fill in the page and then turn it over to write about the week that has just gone).

  2. Thanks, Deb! Sounds like you have big, exciting things on the horizon! I totally know what you mean about getting stuck in research and planning. Some days I think I could stay there forever. :) I'm so happy and honoured to read that your journaling is going so well. Best wishes on your new endeavour!

  5. This is a great page. Honesty staring me in the face (good for me vs. not so good for me).
Thanks, as always, for your generosity.

  6. Another great page! I love the non sequiturs (I always love the lightening round though). Reminds me of a game called Whoonu where you end up choose your favourites from things like beards, the colour blue & bacon!

  9. Just came across these and love them. Beautiful. And I am inspired to come up with my own journal prompts. I would love to know how you create these...is there a program you use, like Illustrator? Thank you so much for sharing!

  13. Hi Mandy, Monique, Barbara, Meg and Anke!

Mandy - So glad to help. Your comment sounds a little ominous; I hope everything is okay.

Monique - Thanks so much. So happy to have inspired you! To answer your question, I am using Illustrator to create my pages. I've been learning as I go and it's been a great adventure so far. Very best wishes on your journaling adventures!

Barbara - Thanks so much! It's that darn blank page. :) I find for myself that when I add a few prompts, the rest comes so much easier.

    Meg - Thanks so much!

Anke - Thanks for stopping by!
