Succulent

This is the plant . . .

and these are its flowers . . .

Together they seem a little odd to me.

But in a good way.

I believe it is an echevaria succulent.  If that's the case, then it is far from its original homeland of Mexico or northwestern South America.  It's so very different from the dark green, leafy things that grow in my neck of the woods.  Enchanting, really.

I wish I could keep it, but my house is the place where plants come to die.  So I will give it to my grandmother tomorrow for her 88th birthday.  She and my grandfather are green to their very cores and will take good care of this new friend.

And I will visit often.

  1. Hi, I am the mother of Domestic Scribbles. The plant you show is called hens and chicks in the USA. I used to go to North Bay every summer vacation of my youth for , so love Ontario.

  3. Thanks for stopping by, Carol! After reading your comment, I googled hens and chicks and found some great photos and information -- all of which I passed on to my grandmother today.

It's also nice to hear that you have a soft spot for Ontario. I visited North Bay once as a teenager. Lovely!
