Starting off with two elements from today's journal page . . .

I've been thinking a lot about learning and the many ways that we acquire new skills and knowledge.  This little project, this collection of journal pages, is most definitely an example of learning by doing.  It yields astonishment and delight when things go well and considerable anxiety when I stop to wonder, where do I go from here?  The answer, I think, will involve all three of the modes of learning described above (and probably a few more that aren't listed.)

In the meantime, today's journal page in full looks like this:

You'll find the usual variations here (no border) and here (with border) and here (with coloured border.)

How about you?  What are the things that you've learned about simply by doing them?

Happy Wednesday friends!

  2. A couple years ago, my older sister tried to teach me how to crochet. Really, the only way I was able to finally learn was just to DO it. Pick up the yarn and hook and try. Now, I'm not the world's greatest crocheter, but I'm not afraid to try a new pattern when I like the way it looks! :)

  3. Hi Scribbler, Tammy, Megan and Pam!

Scribbler: The mother of all learning-by-doing experiences!

Tammy and Megan: Glad you're enjoying them!

Pam: Totally know what you mean! My mom taught me, but she's right-handed and I'm a lefty. Only after many hours with the yarn and the hook (and a lot of unraveling) was I able to get it. But it was worth it!

  4. Love it & especially love the questions incorporated in the doc, they get you thinking! For me, learning anything artistic has to be hands on for me or there's no chance I'll get it right away. Also, geography is WAY easier for me once I've gone somewhere. One thing I would love to get better at is recognizing international flags. Maybe that could be on one of your next downloads! :)
