One of the things that gives me regular pause while I'm creating journal pages is the appropriate wording of the prompts.
Take for example a prompt from today's page:
See that? I've ended with a preposition, which I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to do. The problem I run into over and over again, however, is that the correct alternative sounds ridiculous.
It's either: 3 songs I can't help singing along to: or 3 songs to which I can't help singing along:
The second option just sounds odd; so for now, I'm opting for casual, conversational prompts where prepositions find themselves in all the wrong places.
I'm also opting for quotes that make me smile . . .
Today's page, prepositions and all, looks like this:
You'll find the usual variations here (no border) and here (with the colour-free border) and here (the full technicolour version.)
Happy Wednesday friends!
"When I hear these 3 songs, I can't help singing."
ReplyDeleteUsually prepositions at the end of sentences are not necessary but our ears like to hear them. Truly, the preposition thing is rather new grammatically when looking at the history of English. This episode of A Way with Words had interesting things to say about what influenced how we use grammar today.
1. Oh what a night, late December back in '63....
ReplyDelete2. You are the one I want...(from Grease)
3. Just about any Christmas carol.
Thank you for the reflective journaling pages!
lol, Christie, hope you figure it out. Thanks for another great page.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the quote. Adventure indeed (unless you are on the plane with me, then there is certainly going to be a death grip on someone's arm during take offs and landings).
ReplyDeleteBraces or root canal? Good grief!!! Neither, thank you (had braces and I probably will need a root canal someday). I might just like exclamation points. But question marks are so curvy going with my love of cursive (although mine is atrocious). Top that with some whipped cream and we are good to go for a punctuation sundae! Hmm. Maybe we should just stick to the ice cream version.
Alors on Danse...
ReplyDeleteUnder the sea...
and...
Jingle Bells Rock! (:
I love these pages. Thank you. I have printed out two copies of each to give to my grown daughters. I know they will love your creativity and thought provoking detail.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these pages, Christie! Just an amazing idea!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried to bundle them together as a manuscript and market them to a publisher? I know I'd buy something like this as a 365 page journal.
Whew! I finally am caught up on having them all printed off. Now to get caught up on filling them out.
ReplyDeleteI really love an appreciate the pages you offer. I am a huge journal writer, and I have spent a lot of money on journals similar to yours. But yours is my favorite. I love the variety offered for each day, and I love your creativity.
Thank you so much. What you are offering is priceless. You're amazing!
