Doodle thoughts, mailed out to parts unknown (a little giveaway)

Update:  This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by to leave a comment!

In my last several posts, I've been drawing out my thoughts:
Muchness
A fine mess
It isn't supposed to be easy.  Don't let that stop you.
Different is not necessarily wrong.
It's easier than you think.  It's also harder than you think.  Paradoxes abound.
Listen first.  Talk later.
It's not about the numbers.  (Except when it is.)

I have loved this creative side trip and it's gotten to the point where I'd really love to try sharing my wordy sketches in a new way, perhaps by making them a little more interactive.

Last post, I brought up the idea of mailing them out -- a little side project as I work on longer term goals.  Then, this morning, I was thinking about life and progress and new things -- the usual -- and I drew this into my sketchbook:

Sometimes, seeing the words on paper makes all the difference to my attitudes and actions.  Do you find that, too?  Maybe that's why I'm a little obsessive about words and journals.  :)

So, in the spirit of making today the day, I'd like to announce a doodle giveaway.
I'll start with today's drawing, add a little colour, then cut out the sketchbook sheet and fold it to resemble a note card.  Inside the card, I'll write a short note and mail it off.

I'll plan to do, say, four more.  Five in total.  (If all goes well, maybe a few more.)

If you'd like to enter your name to receive a happy little doodle in the mail, just leave a comment on this post.  Stop by to say "hello" and tell me one thing about yourself.  If you're a teacher and you'd like to tell me about your class, I'd love that, too!

For each of the five doodles, I'll choose one reader to receive it.  If I announce your name in one of the five upcoming posts, you'll need send a quick email to christie(at)graceisoverrated(dot)com with your mailing address (which I would never, ever share elsewhere).

See you back here on Thursday, when I'll post the first finished doodle, plus the name of the person who'll receive it.

hugs,
Christie

  2. You know that I would *love* to get one of your doodles. So, what can I say about me? I love to knit, cross stitch and crochet, and I really wish I could figure out what I want to write about since I really do want to write a book. :/

  3. This is so exciting! I love getting things on the mail, and I'd love to have one of your doodles! I absolutely LOVE journaling and I recently printed all of your "fill in the blanks" pages. I'm doing one page a day and today I'm on page 3! I'll tell you what I answered for one of today's prompts: "last time I sang:" last night! I was alone with my brother and I said hey, let's listen to some good music, and we ended up singing Michael Jackson at the top of our lungs!

  8. Christie, you always have something neat up your sleeve! From someone who is a perfectionist, your journals have helped me to fulfill my goal of keeping a journal without having to deal with the nagging "do it over" feeling that comes when it is just my words and doodles. "Make today the day" is what I told myself when I first started journalling. Thank you for being my catalyst!

  10. I love your doodles! They are so inspiring to me. I printed out all of your journalling pages and pasted them into a blank journal and am trying to encourage myself to visually journal for myself on the pages that are still blank. the first day I took every smencil from my daughter's pile and just colored a dot. . .oh well. . .it's a start, and it smells pretty good.

  11. Hi Christie, I love your doodles they always give me pause for thought. I have only found your blog recently through pinterest and it is so inspiring. I love to craft - all sorts from card making to sewing and everything in between. Unfortunately work, housework and the kids keep getting in the way!

  12. I have especially enjoyed your recent doodle posts - so to receive something like that in the mail would be awesome. It would probably end up on a scrapbook page, as that is my favourite creative outlet, which I escape to as often as my job at the local library and work on our olive grove will let me.

  18. I must confess that I check your RSS Feed everyday to see what your mind has been up to. If I only had your talent...

Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. Win or not, your still my favorite blog!

  19. I love your website and myself and my daughters have enjoyed using some of your journal sheets to start our personal reflections. Of your recent doodles, I felt a connection to "It isn't supposed to be easy"... this is because I have recently gone back to school for education (at the age of 40!) Thank you, for inspiration, for sharing your creativity and for a mini break during study time when I click on "Grace" in my toolbar :)

  20. I have been using the journal pages for 22 days now and just love them! Even more, I love that I HAVE to take time to color!

When I saw "Make Today the Day", I adopted it as my new motto!

  21. One thing about myself... well, I might as well make it count.
I found out that I am allergic to bed bug bites- the hard way. And I haven't slept in my own bedroom for two days now >.<
So, when you say it's not supposed to be easy, you might just have been addressing me!

  24. Hello! This week I found out that after years of eating like a teenager, I have to now take a two pills for cholesterol and two pills for blood sugars. In addition, I gained 9lbs since my last Drs visit. YIPES!! Time to start a new chapter of health and getting the things accomplished that I have been putting off. Like - writing my book, taking Life Coaching classes, finishing projects around the house, riding in a hot air balloon, work on scrapbooks, etc. Love your doodles!!

  25. Hi, my name is Kelly and I have a problem. Admittance is the first step right!? Im obsessed with journals, office supplies and planners. Maybe it's because of my insane life I live as a Army wife (husband currentally serving deployed) mother of three under 4; two of which have autism and both a rare disease that requires medical treatments, and our 7 month old born while daddy was gone. Why I tell you this? Bc as crazy as it sound.... It's easy. It's all I know and I love them. So for fun I like doodling, journaling and obsessing over day planners and these new colored staples I found. Creativity is the key to life and my dose of medicine to keep moving forward.

  26. I love your doodles and think they would make great embroidery projects. I like to embroider cool sayings on pillows, and I keep them around to inspire me. No one gets why I have a pile of little pillows on the bed, but they mean something to me. Would love to receive one of you doodles some day.

  30. Hi,

It's already been such a journey this school year, between deciding what to do with our son and his ADHD, and our daughter not understanding 1st grade work... it's just so stressful... I would really like to start painting again but can't seem to find any motivation, for anything at all.

  31. Your pages are beautiful. And there's just not enough happy mail around these days so this is a wonderful idea. The one thing I'll tell you about myself is that when I listen to music in the car on my own, I turn it up WAAAAY too loud, like it hurts your ears loud. And nobody knew that till now!

  32. I love your doodles! A happy note will make me happy:)
I teach second grade and I'd love to use your ideas in my classroom.

  35. Hi Christie, I'm Mel, and I've lurked far too long... I love your work, and have been filling in one of your journal pages every week this year - thank you!

One thing about me? I spent last night in Accident and Emergency after falling down the stairs :( Luckily no bones were broken, but I've got a nasty ankle sprain and can only get around with crutches for now!
